An intended hacker takes the L when trying to Hack NEAR protocol, the attacker lost roughly $7,000 worth of ETH in the failed attempt.
On May 1st an attack was attempted on the NEAR protocol rainbow bridge, which was developed to bridge the Ethereum network to the NEAR network. As stories around Defi protocol and bridge attacks – costing users millions of dollars – have unsurprisingly flooded the news over the last several months, this situation is an encouraging sign that robust security advancements are being made.
Following the attack Aurora CEO – Alex Shevchenko – summed up the events on Twitter stating that “No bridged funds lost, attacker lost some money, bridge architecture was designed to resist such attacks, additional measures to be taken to ensure the cost of an attack attempt is increased.”
Shevchenko followed up later in the thread stating, “I wish everyone who is innovating in the blockchain to pay enough attention to security and robustness of their products through all the available means: automatic systems, notifications, bug bounties, internal and external audits.”
