DeFi kingdoms: DeFi meets Gaming

Listen to this article

The first ever multi-chain DeFi game, this Decentralized exchange/ blockchain game is more than just a fun universe to explore. “DeFi Kingdoms is a game, a DEX, a liquidity pool opportunity, a market of rare utility driven NFTs, and it all plays out seamlessly in the incredibly nostalgic form of fantasy pixel art.” – The team at DeFi Kingdoms. Created and announced in July 2021, this is one of the very first games to fully embrace the potential of blockchain use in a gaming world.

ENTRY INTO THE GAME

The process of signing up and following the tutorial is simple enough. The game does however require you to use Metamask or attach another wallet, as well as own some Harmony ONE token, as the game was built on the Harmony blockchain. You can bridge tokens simply by exchange or on-chain through Harmony, and then access the DEX from there (DeFi Kingdoms explains this in their tutorial). After attaching your wallet a wizard will walk you through a step-by-step tutorial of all basic game functions in a quick and simple way so you can get to the ‘having fun and making money’ part of the game. After the tutorials, create your player and begin exploring DeFi Kingdoms.

A variety of economics function using the in-game Alchemists, Jeweler, Banks, Castles, Docks, Meditation Circles, Portals, Taverns, Gardens, Marketplace, etc. For example, you can add liquidity to your garden to unlock JEWEL token rewards – the native token to DeFi Kingdoms, or earn staking bonuses by using the Jeweler. Much more purchasable land, buildings, and equipment is still to be added to the game according to their roadmap.

PLAYING DEFI KINGDOMS

To play this game, you can use NFTs – from standard characters to levelled up hero’s with mythical utilities – and with these characters you can venture on quests, level up Heroes, play PvP, and so on. Equipment and kingdoms are also NFTs. Inside the game, different generations of heroes each have unique capabilities. Generation Zero heroes are especially sought after (as all other heroes are summoned from them), with the very cheapest going for the price of 38K USD. Fortunately, there are other ways to level up and earn your way up to one without breaking the bank. Heroes have different ranks, the ability to summon other heroes, and do quests. By doing quests, your heroes gain experience and level up. In this game, it’s also not possible to buy your way to the top, as hero building, game knowledge, involvement time and strategic plays all factor into being the best in DeFi Kingdoms. This reverts back to traditional gameplay for the fun, and blocks whales from buying their way into a monopoly.

CRYSTALVALE EXPANSION

Just a couple days ago, a new expansion to the world launched; an uncharted part which some are calling “The perilous journey.” An unknown quest, players who dare to risk their heroes must strategically plan and survive the quest in order to reap the rewards. 25 Generation Zero heroes will be raffled off to survivors of Crystalvale, with the raffle favouring those whose travelling group is in the best condition afterwards. Not much is known other than this, and the map will be added to the main world once it has been successfully navigated and made safe. Several lucky players who staked JEWEL were airdropped supplies and a new token ‘CRYSTAL’ to aid them on their quest hours before the expansion was opened.

A FEW KEY FUNDAMENTALS

The tokenomics of DeFi Kingdoms separates it from other DEXs by its game structure. The functioning in-game economy brings tremendous value to the native token of the game (JEWEL). Governance tokens are sometimes used as a gimmick and not actually used for governance: DeFi Kingdom places so many capabilities and power by using their token that every player will use it actively. From buying heroes, to question usage and rewards, summoning, renting heroes, in-game staking (where a percentage of fees from across the marketplace go back into the hands of Jewel stakers), this game/DEX has all bases covered.

With a market cap of 480K USD, DeFi Kingdoms is already scaling through the gaming ranks in its early days. It opens a new door to a new audience of gamers who may not be interested in decentralized finance or blockchain, but are willing to use it in order to play a brilliant game. It also has the capabilities to allow users to earn for their time spent in the game and turn that into real-world money. To really know if a game is going to be successful though, you really should go play it first.
