How to get started with Trust Wallet a step-by-step guide

Listen to this article

Trust Wallet is one of the most secure and easy to use decentralized wallets in crypto. Here’s how to activate and navigate moving from a centralized exchange to your first decentralized wallet.

Wallet set-up

First, download the Trust Wallet app from the app store. Once downloaded, tap the option labelled “Create a new wallet.”

You’ll be asked to create a 6-digit pass code, followed by a randomly generated 12 word seed-phrase. PLEASE NOTE: This seed-phrase must be stored offline somewhere where it cannot be traced on a device. This seed-phrase is the primary protection method for your wallet. If it is lost, there’s no way to access your account, and all funds shall be permanently lost.

  • The 12 word seed-phrase will appear on your phone screen.

  • Write it down.

  • Reconfirm your seed-phrase by selecting the 12 words in their correct order.

After inputting your secure seed-phrase, the screen will read “Your wallet was successfully created.”

Funding your wallet

The easiest – and cheapest – way to add funds to your Trust Wallet is to send cryptocurrency from the exchange you used prior.

Now that you’ve entered your wallet, the main screen will look like this:

Select the coin you’re planning on depositing (we’ve selected Ethereum here).

You’ll see a receive icon > circled in red here:

Tap the receive icon followed by the copy icon in order to copy your wallet address. You can now send Ethereum to this address.

Next, head over to your exchange (We’ll use Coinbase as an example, but most exchanges have a similar layout and follow the same process).

1. Click the middle icon on your coinbase account and select send.

2. Choose Ethereum and enter the amount you intend to send, then hit the continue bar.

3. The following page will ask where you want to send your Ethereum. Simply paste the previously copied Trust Wallet address from your clipboard and click preview send.

4. It’s worth double checking the precise wallet address. After that, tap Send now and your Ethereum will transfer from your Coinbase to your Trust Wallet in a matter of seconds. NoteSome exchanges require an email or phone confirmation after you press send.

Trading inside your wallet

Buying cryptocurrency through your Trust Wallet is overcomplicated, thus we advise you to send funds from an exchange. However, trading and swapping tokens are quite simple inside Trust.

Select from the choice of tokens which two you would like to exchange, and then press swap. It’s that easy. Trading is more advanced but the trade options on Trust also make it quite simple.

Using a decentralized wallet allows you to connect to various sectors within your crypto, such as using DeFi protocols, staking, lending, yield farming, and NFTs. Using a decentralized wallet opens the doors to the best opportunities in crypto.
