EVERYTHING IS CHANGING, WHETHER YOU SEE IT OR NOT
The internet plays a huge role in just about everyone’s lives these days. It’s been the centrepiece of a rapidly changing and evolving society.
Web1.0’s simplicity mostly involved static information pages that you could browse but allowed no form of communication. Enter Web2.0 with the rise of a more sophisticated user experience in the late 2000’s. Web applications, the rise of social media, mobile devices, e-commerce, and tech giants such as Google or Facebook, the upgraded web became a user-haven of endless possibilities.
WHAT IS WEB3.0
A big change for the people is taking form in Web3.0. But what exactly is Web3.0? Summed up in a sentence, Web3.0 is the new development coming to the internet, mostly made up of blockchain technology and the tools of a decentralized web. This new coming age of the internet aims to benefit the users and to give them power of control, privacy and many more capabilities where people, not large companies or corporations, run the show. Let’s expand on this …
SO WHAT CHANGES IS WEB3.0 BRINGING TO THE INTERNET?
For starters, Cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology are already a massive and active industry within the new web. Most, if not all, of the biggest Blockchain or Cryptocurrencies are DAOs ( Decentralised Autonomous Organisation). This means they have no CEOs, and that shareholders with the most tokens vote on action. DAOs are community based and run, allowing everyone to contribute and share in the direction, journey, or success of any community they choose to join. Many DAOs actually allow you to earn crypto or rewards for simply using their site or protocol. Web3.0 isn’t limited to just Crypto and Blockchain though, there’s a lot more it promises.
YOUR IDENTITY
By 2030, over 100 Billion devices will be connected to the internet, requiring upgraded forms of user ubiquity. – [Open source software will be a key component to this, a technology that is only recently beginning to gain traction through ZK-Rollups… but more on that in the next email. 😎] – This means it’ll be necessary for users to have access to their Identity at any given time without the use of a centralised application. Future web users will have a cross-platform SDI (Secure Digital Identity) on the blockchain and only used as an online entity. Only you have access to this Identity, so all data will be user controlled. Friends will all be linked through their online identities rather than through a centralized social media platform, thus meaning real life data and personal information is no longer required. How is this possible?
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Privacy by default is part of this gleaming future. The road to achieve it; Artificial Intelligence. From Permissionless Trade and Cloud Computing to Machine Learning and semantics, AI is becoming a more useful and applicable technology. Many have claimed a better user experience driven by enhanced data connectivity through AI will be the most utilised tool in Web3.0. For example, AI will be able to interact conversationally with humans through its semantic ability. It will also be capable of many other tasks that will serve a crucial role in the new Web. From filtering through endless amounts of data in rapid time and separating the real from the fake, removing threats such as scammers or hackers, to detecting rigged product reviews rating manipulation… etc. AI can quite literally do it all.
FUTURE TECH IS HERE
The future looks bright for internet users. The Metaverse has become a trendy phrase and center of hype as we see multiple Metaverses forming in the likes of ‘The Sandbox’ or Facebook’s controversial move to change their name to ‘Meta.’ Augmented reality is becoming more accessible and advanced, and like all other mentioned Web3.0 wonders, new use cases will steadily pour in calling for more and more uses. But, unlike the web before, instead of just being a user of all the new features, you’ll become an owner.
